"That Woman You Gave Me": the Adamic Syndrome

How many times have you heard statements like "Lying is as old as mankind?" or "Many people are experts of the blame game?" Why do people tell lies even when the truth seems so obvious? How many people own up their mistakes? Why do many find it easier to blame others for all their mistakes, problems and woes? Am I, or have I been a culprit of this blame game? What excuses have you heard, or proffered, to justify a negative/unwanted behavior?

I remember when one of my nephews years flunked years ago. When asked why he failed, he quickly answered that "he was made to sit at the back of the class!" Another young girl who failed her quiz told me "the teacher passed only his friends!" From the classic "the dog ate my homework" to the most frivolous "my wife made me hit her" or "he caused me to cheat on him," humans are full of excuses, some of which may sound weird, meaningless, crazy, funny, or outright silly!

Could it be that this tendency to not own up is in our genetic make-up? Could it be that we inherited the lying gene from our forebears, Adam and Eve, for those who believe the biblical account of creation? But why do some own up while others do not? Have you heard or read some myths about why women do not own up? I remember one account in Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales."

Remember when God asked a simple question as, "Adam, where are you?" One expected a straightforward answer, right? Wrong, Adam rather answered, "we heard your voice and hid." Now check out his answer to the next question: "What have you done? Have you eaten the fruit I forbade you?" Knowing he had erred, one would think Adam would man-up and apologize to his friend, God. But no, it was not his fault. "That woman you gave me made me eat the fruit!" Wow, Adam! Couldn't he have refused to eat? What does it take to own up to one's mistakes and or errors? Rather than admit his fault, Adam blamed God for giving him Eve in the first place! But did Adam complain when he was presented Eve as a companion? Did he not excitedly accept Eve as "bone of my bone...flesh of my flesh?" Why the sudden flip-flop?

Is it right to say that mankind is afflicted with the Adamic Syndrome! Could that be why many do not own up to their mistakes? But are adults not responsible for their action whether it was their decision or they heeded someone's advice? What are some reasons or excuses you have heard or given to explain your failings?

Canadian woman won $10.5 million and squandered it!!!

Sharon Tirabassi

Nine years ago, Sharon Tirabassi won a lottery jackpot of $10.5 million. Today, the mother of nine children is broke, lives from pay-check to paycheck, and takes a bus to her part-time job. Is it possible to spend that kind of money within a time frame of nine years? How did Tirabassi squander such huge amount? The answers are easy: she failed to invest her money. Instead, Tirabassi spent her money on extravagant vacations, a mansion, four luxury cars, and purchasing expensive gifts for family members and her newly found friends! Today, all her luxuries are gone, and Tirabassi is back to square one!!!!

Have you ever won a substantial amount of money? If yes, how did you manage it? Is winning a lottery jackpot a blessing or a curse? What would you do if you win a lottery jackpot today? What plans do you have in place in case you win?

Body on the Beach: 14 year-old killed by the man she met online

Shaniesha Forbes, 14

Shaniesha Forbes would have celebrated her 15th birthday last month. Sadly, the teenager's naked, charred body was found on the beach in Brooklyn, New York in January. 20-year-old, Christian Ferdinand, of Limestone, Maine, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in the death of Forbes. Ferdinand allegedly told detectives that he met Forbes online last December, and the two started a sexual relationship. When they met at Ferdinand's cousin's apartment on January 4th, and Forbes informed him she was pregnant, Ferdinand smothered her with a pillow and later dumped her burnt body on the beach!!!

Admittedly, not every online meeting ends in tragedy. Stories abound of successful relationships that started on the world wide web.Ugly stories with fatal endings are many too. Forbes' death is one too many of such ugly encounters. With all the perverts out there, what are some of the measures parents could adopt to protect their kids from online predators?

Florida Man Indicted for Tricking Pregnant Girlfriend into Taking Abortion Drug

John Andrew Welen, 28
Remee Jo Lee, 26

What was John Andrew Welden thinking when he deceived his girlfriend to abort her six-week old pregnancy? Did he think he would get away with it? If he did not want to be a father, could he not have used condoms? Or, is this a case of one wanting to eat one's cake and still have it?

Welden took a drastic measure to get rid of his unborn child, and that has landed him in a deep hole!
According to prosecutors, a day after he and his girlfriend of eight months visited Welden's father's clinic for prenatal care and a sonogram, he lied to her that his father, a fertility doctor, had diagnosed her with some infections, and prescribed some antibiotics for her. Unknown to Remee Lee, the bottle contained Cytotec, an ulcer drug, not Amoxicillin as John indicated. Lee took the drugs, started bleeding and subsequently suffered a miscarriage.

Welden has been arrested, and indicted on charges of product-tampering and first-degree murder under the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, charges that could keep him in prison for the rest of his life!

Did Remee Lee contribute to her loss? Should she be blamed for taking the drug even though the doctor did not discuss the said infection with her? What could she have done? Should willfully killing a six-week old fetus considered as murder?

Boats Carrying 200 Rohingya Muslims Capsize in Myanmar, One Survives

Boats carrying about 200 Rohingya Muslims who were evacuating ahead of a storm have capsized off western Myanmar, killing all but one person, UN officials have said. The vessels hit trouble on Monday night after leaving Pauktaw township in Rakhine state, said a spokeswoman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
"They were travelling to another camp ahead of the cyclone," the spokeswoman added.
Kirsten Mildren, who works for the same UN agency, told Al Jazeera there was only one confirmed survivor from Monday's accident.
Cyclone Mahasen is expected on Thursday and Friday. More than 5,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying camps in the Rakhine state capital, Sittwe, to safer shelter.
In 2008, Cyclone Nargis killed more than 130,000 people in Myanmar.

Angelina Jolie Had Double Masectomy: some early symptoms of cancer

Angelina Jolie, an Oscar winner and UN Goodwill Ambassador, has revealed that she underwent surgery to have both breasts removed after testing positive for BRCA1, the predisposing gene for breast and ovarian cancer. As she told New York Times, her doctors "estimated that [she] had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer." Level of risk differs for each woman. Note that Jolie's mother succumbed to ovarian cancer after battling it for over a decade.
Early detection of most cancers often result in good prognosis. Testing is advised especially if one has family members already diagnosed of the disease.

Some symptoms women need to check out with their physicians include but not limited to:
  • wheezing or shortness of breath: Lung and Thyroid cancer can cause breathing difficulties.
  • chronic cough or chest pain: several types of cancer, including leukemia and lung tumors, can imitate a bad cough or bronchitis. Pain may go away only to return. It may extend to the shoulder or down the arm.
  • swallowing problems or hoarseness
  • frequent fevers or infection
  • swollen lymph nodes or lumps on the neck, underarm, or groin
  • bloating or abdominal weight gain
  • felling full and unable to eat
  • pelvic or abdominal pain
  • unusually heavy or painful periods or bleeding between periods
  • rectal bleeding or blood in stool
