Angelina Jolie Had Double Masectomy: some early symptoms of cancer

Angelina Jolie, an Oscar winner and UN Goodwill Ambassador, has revealed that she underwent surgery to have both breasts removed after testing positive for BRCA1, the predisposing gene for breast and ovarian cancer. As she told New York Times, her doctors "estimated that [she] had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer." Level of risk differs for each woman. Note that Jolie's mother succumbed to ovarian cancer after battling it for over a decade.
Early detection of most cancers often result in good prognosis. Testing is advised especially if one has family members already diagnosed of the disease.

Some symptoms women need to check out with their physicians include but not limited to:
  • wheezing or shortness of breath: Lung and Thyroid cancer can cause breathing difficulties.
  • chronic cough or chest pain: several types of cancer, including leukemia and lung tumors, can imitate a bad cough or bronchitis. Pain may go away only to return. It may extend to the shoulder or down the arm.
  • swallowing problems or hoarseness
  • frequent fevers or infection
  • swollen lymph nodes or lumps on the neck, underarm, or groin
  • bloating or abdominal weight gain
  • felling full and unable to eat
  • pelvic or abdominal pain
  • unusually heavy or painful periods or bleeding between periods
  • rectal bleeding or blood in stool
