What Killed Yasser Arafat?

Was the late Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, poisoned? Scientists in Switzerland found abnormal levels of polonium-210 in his belongings, including his clothes, toothbrush and kaffiyeh headscarf!

In 2004, the Palestinian leader was said to have become violently ill at his West Bank compound. He was flown to France where he died at a military hospital outside Paris in November 2004. French doctors ascribed a massive brain hemorrhage as cause of death.

While acknowledging the findings of "surprisingly" high levels of polonium-210 in Arafat's belongings, Darcy Christen, spokesman for the Institut de Radiophysique in Lausanne, Switzerland, emphasized that clinical symptoms described in Arafat's medical reports were not consistent with polonium-210 and that conclusions could not be drawn as to whether the Palestinian leader was poisoned or not. But according to Francois Bochud, director of the institute, the only way to confirm the findings would be to exhume Arafat's body to test it for polonium-210.

Arafat's widow, Suha, wants his body exhumed for an autopsy, to "reveal the truth to all the Muslim and Arab world."

Polonium was said to have caused the death of former Russian spy, Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006 which led to the assumption that he was poisoned. So what killed former Palestinian Leader, Yasser Arafat?
