Dead Man Working!

Nkiru Oh

For 20 years, co-workers on the security team at Newark Liberty International Airport, one of United States' busiest airports, knew Bimbo Olumuyiwa Oyewole as Jerry Thomas. So what's the big deal, you asked? The big deal is that the real Jerry Thomas was murdered in 1992 in New York City! For 20 years, 54 year-old Oyewole used the name and worked undetected, first as a security guard and later a security supervisor! His bubbles burst after an anonymous tip led to his arrest on Monday at his home in Elizabeth, New Jersey!

Admittedly, there has not been any indication of any other intent or transgressions and Police in New York did not say whether Oyewole was a suspect in the July 20, 1992, killing of Jerry Thomas in Queens, New York.

According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the area's main airports and other transit hubs, Oyewole came to the United States illegally in 1989 and had worked under several contractors at the airport, most recently FJC Security Services, and supervised about 30 guards. The agency said its investigation found no indication that he used the fake identity for any reason other than to live in the United States.

Authorities said his arrest came on the day a federal report found the Transportation Security Administration's handling of security breaches at Newark Liberty International deficient, and charges facing him include identity theft. How Oyewole obtained Thomas' personal information remains unknown at this time!
